Lifting Legends: Raymond McLaren is a commemorative documentary honouring Raymond McLaren, founder of Andromeda Industries and the inaugural recipient of the LEEA Lifting Legend Award.
Raymond’s career began with a simple curiosity about knots, splicing, and the mechanics of how things work. That curiosity became a lifetime of invention, from mobile sling-making across regional New South Wales to the design and manufacture of machines that helped advance lifting equipment production and performance. His contribution extends beyond engineering. Raymond has played a role in the development of Australian standards for slings and rigging gear, championed quality and integrity across the industry, and shared his knowledge generously with colleagues, students, customers, community groups, and the wider lifting sector.
When we began making Lifting Legends: Raymond McLaren, the aim was not simply to document an award recipient, but to honour a lifetime of contribution to an industry connected to one of civilisation’s oldest practical arts: lifting.
