Directors Statement
I made this film with the hope that it would be challenging to both viewers and myself. For better or for worse I tend to write very self-reflexively, and I thought it would be exciting to push this to the furthest extreme, and make a film where I myself was part of the text. I hoped that this would be a new way to more deeply interrogate some of the ideas I return to (consciously or otherwise) every time I make a short film: the nature of filmmaking, the relationship between the image and the viewer, and the ways in which the bonds between people can become a prison.
Luckily for me, I was able to lean on a cast and crew of enthusiastic and talented friends who were more than happy to take the plunge with me. As much as I tend to create things that I feel a very strong individual connection to, one of the joys of filmmaking is that it is collaborative, and that other people can help breathe life into something that could’ve easily died on the page.
